Purchasing Honored as Two of the Top Supply Chain Management Professionals
PLANO, Texas (March 21, 2002) EDS today announced that Tom
Slaight, an A.T. Kearney vice president and co-founder of eSourcing
leader eBreviate, and EDS' Pete Quigney, vice president of Global
Purchasing, were named to iSource magazine's list of 2002 "Pros
to Know."
The two EDS executives were among 19 professionals recognized as
"Pros to Know" because of their experience enabling supply
chain advancement and innovation in companies around the world.
iSource is a monthly business magazine aimed at supply chain management
professionals and businesses.
Quigney is responsible for all of EDS' product and service purchasing.
With the company's annual expenditure of more than $9 billion, Quigney's
organization uses A.T. Kearney's strategic sourcing methodologies
and EDS-developed information technology to leverage the company's
buying power.
Quigney oversees the development and integration of purchasing requirements
and new technologies to create world-class purchasing services,
including the Bank of Knowledgesm, which applies data mining, text
mining and data visualization capabilities. This supply chain intelligence
application, developed in collaboration with the EDS Advanced Application
Technologies team, enhances data analysis by identifying trends,
such as spend pattern, for certain commodities purchased by EDS.
In addition, under Quigney's direction, Global Purchasing developed
eTemp and BestRate2Ship
to optimize supplier contracts, streamline transaction times, reduce
process complexity and save EDS over $225 million in the last five
years. eTemp, in connection with EDS' Contract Labor Managed Labor
Program, coordinate the management of all significant activities
in the lifecycle of the temporary labor procurement.
A Web-based desktop shipping solution, BestRate2Ship provides instant
and advantageous rate and class comparisons and delivers the lowest
costs for small shipments and overnight packages.
Slaight, who also serves as eBreviate president, has been instrumental
in the growth of A.T. Kearney's market leading strategic sourcing
consulting practice. Since 1995 the company has helped clients save

Slaight co-authored a 1998 CAPS (Center for Advanced Purchasing
Study)-sponsored study entitled, "The Future of Purchasing
and Supply Management a Five and Ten Year Perspective."
The study won the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) President's
Award for Excellence. Subsequently, Slaight was named to the Board
of Directors of ISM.
The individuals named to the iSource list demonstrated a dedication
to continually improving supply chain technology and have worked
to help supply chain management professionals by equipping them
with the proper tools. Selection criteria included the candidate's
