eBreviate Wins Contract to Provide
Auction Technology to Global Medical Device Manufacturer BD
One-Year Full-Service Contract Builds on Initial Auction Pilot;
Auctions to be Held in U.S. and Europe
WALNUT CREEK, California (May 3, 2001) eBreviate,an EDS company
offering a market-leading suite of eSourcing tools, technologies
and services, today announced it has won a competitive contract
to provide full-service on-line auctions to worldwide medical device,
supplies and systems manufacturer BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company).
Online auctions enable the BD Company procurement organization to
improve the efficiency they experience in the RFP process, and overall
savings they realize from their category
management/strategic sourcing program. The one-year contract will
enable BD to utilize the online auction tool for multiple commodities
during the year. The auctions will be hosted at both U.S. and European
BD locations.
"Online auctions bring many benefits to our category management
program," said David Malpiedi, vice-president of BD Company
Operations - Procurement. "In order to have a successful strategic
sourcing initiative, we know we must provide cutting-edge tools
to our category managers. Because
our pilot online auctions from eBreviate were so successful, we
decided to award eBreviate a one-year contract so that we can offer
this tool to a large number of category managers."
The categories under the new contract are expected to include a
variety of materials, for both direct and indirect materials, and
production and capital commodities. The auctions will be run from
locations such as Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, Plymouth, England
and Madrid, Spain, in coordination with company category managers
and purchasing executives.
"eSourcing tools like auctions allow European businesses to
embrace technology and the spirit of competitiveness in new and
successful ways," said Chris Shanahan, director - BD Purchasing
Europe. "We are embracing the opportunity to use the auction
tool in 2001 so that we are ahead of the curve." Among the
auctions expected are pan European auctions for direct and indirect
spend materials.
"We're pleased that BD chose eBreviate for this new full-service
contract over a number of competitors," said Sarah Pfaff, eBreviate's
executive vice-president of sales, marketing and strategy. "Our
robust total cost functionality is the unique differentiator that
will enable the BD procurement professionals to negotiate on factors
beyond just price. It is this capability that BD purchasing executives
believe will be of greatest value going forward."
